On February 2nd, 2023, the president of the Polish Cardiac Society announced prof. Przemysław Mitkowski that 2023 will be the year of fighting with hypercholesterolemia.
In connection with the implementation of the New Medicine Service scientific project, which aim is to monitor patient taking a newly prescribed statin, carried out at the Faculty of Medicine of UKSW we are trying to prepare doctors and pharmacists to work together on this very important educational project. The very low awareness of risk factors in Polish society is also a very worrying phenomenon, because only 2 out of 10 people know what their total and/or LDL cholesterol levels are high. On behalf of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Collegium Medicum, prof. dr hab. n. med. Filip M. Szymański and the Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, Fr. prof. We would like to inform Marek Stokłosa about the start of the next stage of the pioneering research program of the pilot New Medicine Service in hypercholesterolemia will be run in cooperation with pharmacies operating under the Gemini brand.
Decision No. 21/2022 of the Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw on the appointment of a team for the implementation of the project: „Pharmaceutical care in patients with hypercholesterolemia”
Pursuant to § 39 sec. 4 of the Statute of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, the following is resolved: The Project Management Team (ZZP) for the educational and research project entitled „Pharmaceutical care for patients with hypercholesterolemia” under the agreement between UKSW and GEMINI Polska Sp. zoo. concluded in Warsaw on November 23, 2022, composed of: Ph.D. Piotr Merks – Project Manager, MD Beata Chełstowska – Formal and substantive coordinator, Iwona Kądziela, MA – Chief Project Specialist in the field of financial settlement.

Hypercholesterolemia is a serious challenge nowadays. Only proper treatment, health monitoring and proper, comprehensive patient care can minimize the effects of this disorder. Patient education is a very important element of maintaining the effectiveness of therapy in hypercholesterolemia.
